Geography: Mauritius is an African republic and island nation -
part of the Mascarene Archipelago in the Indian Ocean on the sea
route to India, east of Madagascar. The republic also includes the
small islands of Agalega, St. Brandon and Rodrigues. Mauritius sold
Diego Garcia to the UK in 1965. The Republic of Mauritius is
located in the Indian Ocean 800 km southeast of Madagascar. It
consists of two main islands, Mauritius (1865 km2) and Rodrigues
(109 km2) and two groups of outer islands, namely the St Brandon
Archipelago (3 km2) and Agalega (c21 km2) . The total land area of
the Republic of Mauritius is 2,040 km2 with an Exclusive Economic
Zone (EEZ) extending over more than 2 million square
kilometres.
