The 2010 Population and Housing Census: Demographic, Social, Economic and Housing Characteristics Report. 2013. / : Ghana Statistical Service
'Ghana has had a long history of population data collection. The 1891 census was the first official census in the then Gold Coast. This tradition continued at intervals of 10 years until the Second World War interrupted the series. The next census in the Gold Coast after the one in 1931 was, therefore, conducted in 1948. A census should have been conducted in 1958, a year after independence, but was deferred and subsequently carried out in 1960. The 1960 census became the base of the current census series, although the one for 1980 was delayed until 1984.'
