Giftigt kræftfremkaldende metal som bl.a. anvendes til at producere jod-131 / Iodine-131.
Metallet skabes også i forbindelse med atomvåbenforsøg og blev i denne forbindelse først sporet i forbindelse med forsøgene i Marshalløerne i den første del af den kolde krig.
