NNSA Official: Cost of B61 Life Extension Stable at $8.2 Billion
Posted on InsideDefense.com: February 12, 2014
The National Nuclear Security Administration's portion of the B61 nuclear gravity bomb life-extension program remains on cost and schedule, having made its way through a trio of high-level cost assessments in the last year or so, according to a senior NNSA official.
The organization's deputy administrator for defense programs, Don Cook, also said he has seen no delays or unmanageable risks on behalf of the Air Force, which is responsible for developing a new tailkit for the bomb. Together, the B61 LEP and tailkit assembly acquisition are expected to cost close to $10 billion.
