☮ Latin: pacificateur eller pacificator. På engelsk kendes begrebet fra 1902 og på dansk fra 1922.
Ikkevoldelige bestræbelser og ideologi som har til formål at afgøre eller løse internationale stridigheder og gruppekonflikter ad ikke militær vej, således at fred opnås. Eksempler på praktisk pacifisme: Løsningen af unionskonflikten mellem Norge og Sverige 1905. Modstanden mod svensk deltagelse i første verdenskrig på tysk side. Opløsningen af de borgerkrigslignende tilstande i Liberia 1932 af Dr. Meville Mackenzie, fra Folkeforbundets sekretariat.

Pacifism is nonviolent efforts and ideology aimed at resolving international disputes and group conflicts by non-military means, so that peace is achieved. Examples of practical pacifism: The solution of the union conflicts between Norway and Sweden in 1905. The opposition to Swedish participation in World War I on the German side and the solution of the civil war like conditions in Liberia 1932 by Dr. Meville Mackenzie, from the League of Nations Secretariat.
