Debate over future of weapons plant could be headed to ballot or
to court

The Kansas City Council voted 12-1 Thursday against a proposal to
convert the weapons plant being built at 14500 Botts Road in south
Kansas City into a green technology facility.
The council vote was prompted by a petition drive mounted by a
group called Kansas City Peace Planters. It gathered
thousands of petition signatures to try to force a public vote
later this year to prohibit production of nuclear weapons
components at the future plant. The group recommends converting the
plant into an environmentally progressive manufacturing
facility.
