Dozens of health authorities and hospitals across Britain are major
shareholders in Britain's arms industry, according to research by
the pressure group Campaign Against the Arms Trade. Britain's
second biggest weapons manufacturing company, General Electric
Company, lists among its shareholders the British Heart Foundation
(400000 shares) and St Bartholomew's Hospice in London, whose
special trustees hold 200000 shares in General Electric Company
worth about pounds sterling3 each. The trustees of St George's and
St Thomas's Hospitals, London, have also invested in the
company.
