Harry Belafonte Turned 94 Yesterday. Revisiting His Living Legacy Today

In 1956, a New York musician born to Caribbean immigrants “released the first million-selling LP in history,”
wrote Joshua Jelly-Schapiro in a vital 2011 interview with the artist and activist. “Harry Belanfonte was
bigger than Elvis”—a knowingly fraught comparison, quickly released: “But where Elvis built Graceland,
Belafonte used the proceeds from Calypso to bankroll his friend Martin Luther King Jr.’s movement for civil
rights” and propel one of the paramount marches and coalitions in American history. Belafonte is the only
person “to talk to both King and Bobby Kennedy on a daily basis through those years” and secured the
airlifting of a plane of Kenyan students to the United States in 1961. On that plane was Barack Obama Sr.

Explosive violence in 2020
Civilians continued to suffer disproportionately from the impacts of explosive weapons in 2020.
Today, Action on Armed Violence (AOAV) releases the tenth annual report on harm from explosive weapons
following ten years of recording the global impact of explosive violence as reported in English language
media.
In 2020, AOAV recorded 18,747 deaths and injuries as a result of the use of explosive weapons around the
world. Civilians continued to suffer disproportionately, accounting for 59% of total casualties, with 11,056
civilian deaths and injursies.

Washington, D.C., March 3, 2021 - Video evidence presented by House impeachment managers during Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial shows just how close the violent mob came to physically confronting Vice President Mike Pence and Senators Mitt Romney and Chuck Schumer, and includes footage of the mob rifling through congressional desks and offices. The never-before-seen cell phone and surveillance footage, which members of Congress watched at the same time as the public, makes the Pentagon’s continued silence about its delay in sending in the D.C. National Guard to protect the U.S. Capitol all the more glaring.
The videos, as well as the flash message that was sent at 5:39 PM ordering all D.C. National Guard not already at the Capitol to report to duty – hours after the assault was underway – are among the documents posted today in the National Security Archive’s second "January 6 Sourcebook".
The January 6 Sourcebook publication marks the continuation of a systematic campaign by the Archive, a champion of the Freedom of Information Act, to use the FOIA to open the documentary record of what the government knew and when, and what the government did and didn’t do and when, about the mob attack on the Capitol. Archive staff have already drafted more than 100 specific, targeted FOIA requests to multiple federal agencies.

Defense Minister Ganz: Hundreds of Israelis may face prosecution at the International Criminal Court
Yonah Jeremy Bob - Jerusalem Post/Reuters - International Criminal Court Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda is
opening a full war crimes probe against Israel and Hamas. "The decision followed a painstaking preliminary
examination undertaken by my office, lasting close to five years. Our central concern must be for the victims
of crimes, both Palestinian and Israeli, arising from the long cycle of violence and insecurity that has caused
deep suffering and despair on all sides. My office will take the same principled, non-partisan, approach that it
has adopted in previous cases." The Government of Israel voiced vehement protest, frustrated in its hope that
Bensouda - soon to end her term as ICC prosecutor - would leave the decision to her successor and that he
could be persuaded to stop the investigation. Defense Minister and Acting Justice Minister Benny Gantz
alarmed government officials when he warned that hundreds of Israelis could be subject – in the near future –
to war crimes probes by the International Criminal Court. Gantz called that “an estimate,” declining to say
that Israel had drawn up a list of officials likely to be investigated.[ak]

Greenpeace afslører: Danish Crowns handel med kød er medskyldig i katastrofale brande i Brasiliens

Mens skov- og naturbrande sidste år satte nye rekorder i Brasiliens Pantanal-region, har Danish Crown købt
omfattende mængder oksekød med forbindelse til de kvægfarmere, der har antændt og ødelagt væsentlige
dele af verdens største vådområde.
Danish Crown har i perioden november 2019 til januar 2020 købt og handlet i alt 153 tons oksekød fra de
brandhærgede områder i Pantanal fra især brasilianske JBS, der er verdens største kødkoncern, hvorefter
oksekødet er skibet til forbrugernes kølediske i Hong Kong.
JBS’ kødleverancer i Pantanal kommer fra kvægfarmere, der har været involveret i ulovligt at antænde
Pantanal-brandene i 2020 og har lange synderegistre med skovrydning, hvidvaskning af kvæg og
overtrædelser af Brasiliens skov- og miljølovgivning, afslører den nye rapport Making Mincemeat of the
Pantanal fra Greenpeace International.

Patent-fri coronavaccine har stået på hylden i 9 måneder : Førende finske forskere opfandt en patentfri
coronavaccine allerede tilbage i maj 2020. Den ville have tilladt lande verden over at vaccinere deres
befolkninger til overkommelige priser. Men i stedet for at støtte initiativet, valgte den socialdemokratiske
regering i Finland at alliere sig med medico-industrien. Det viser, hvordan den patentbaserede
