Worldwide boycott of the corporatist mass media
By John Wilmerding
'Recall the face of the poorest and most helpless person whom you
may have seen and ask yourself if the step you contemplate is going
to be of any use to him, will he be able to gain anything by it?
Will it restore him to control over his life and destiny? In other
words, will it lead to 'swaraj', self-rule for the hungry and also
spiritually starved millions of our countrymen? Then you will find
your doubts and your self melting away.'
-- Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Honor! Dignity! Self-determination! Nonviolent Revolution!
Beginning in the late 1990s, we in the Coalition for
Equity-Restorative Justice (CERJ) led, behind the scenes, a
successful boycott of Exxon/Mobil petroleum company (aka 'Esso' in
other countries), the former Standard Oil. This boycott has been
successful regionally. Here in Vermont, gas stations have been
forced to surrender the Exxon brand and take another brand, like
Neighbors, Planet, Irving, etc., anything but Exxon or Mobil.
Today, I would like to call for a worldwide boycott of the
corporatist mass media.
Do not get your news from any corporatist media outlet. Go instead
to internet outlets of your own choosing. Above all, NEVER PAY for
a corporatist newspaper or subscribe to a corporatist web site or
television / video outlet. If you absolutely must read them, read
them for free on the net, or go to the local library.
The reason is that they are feeding us lies intended to falsely
justify aggressive warfare in different parts of the world, a
worldwide military, political, and economic hegemony (US bases in
150+ countries), racism, colonialism, imperialism, etc. They are
suppressing dissent and radical points of view, even where these
are nonviolent.
This year, wage the peaceful rebellion ... be part of the
NONVIOLENT REVOLUTION
If we are strong enough and deliberate enough in what we do, Barack Obama and other
leaders with good hearts will be forced to come with us. Remember,
if the people lead, the leaders will follow!
"If we make peaceful revolution impossible, we make violent
revolution inevitable."
-- John Fitzgerald Kennedy
