Ny Rapport om Plutonium-forurening ved Thule i 1968 offentliggjort

Sundheds- og miljømyndighederne i Grønland og Danmark har nu modtaget den endelige rapport fra Risø vedrørende plutonium-forurening af et område omkring Thule-basen på Grønland. Rapporten bliver offentliggjort onsdag, den 31. maj 2006.
Forureningen fandt sted i januar 1968, da et B52-fly brød i brand og havarerede på isen på kysten ud for Thule-basen. I den efterfølgende eksplosive brand blev materiale fra flyets fire plutonium-baserede bomber spredt i området. På trods af den oprydning og rensning der blev foretaget umiddelbart efter, er strålingsniveauet i området aldrig helt faldet tilbage på dets oprindelige plan.
Rapporten fra Risø er baseret på data indsamlet på stedet i 2003 under et samarbejde mellem bl.a. Grønlands Naturinstitut og Forskningscenter Risø. Forureningen er ifølge rapporten af en sådan karakter, at den muligvis kan udgøre en (mindre) sundhedsrisiko for personer, der har deres færd i området. Rapporten anbefaler nye undersøgelser af et landområde ud for kysten, Narsaarsuk, som lokale vindforhold tilbage i 1968 gjorde særligt udsat for forureningen.
Koncentrationerne af plutonium i havvand og havdyr er lave og kan ikke udgøre en strålemæssig risiko for mennesker, selv ikke ved indtagelse af skaldyr med de højeste koncentrationer...

CONTRACTS from the United States Department of Defense
Oshkosh Truck Corporation, Oshkosh, Wis., is being awarded an estimated $740,220,577 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for logistics vehicle system replacement vehicles with associated manuals, vehicle kits, test support and training. The maximum ordering quantity will be 1,350 cargo variants, 150 wrecker variants and 400 fifth wheel variants. The initial delivery order will be issued for $28,016,982 for 22 cargo variants, 2 wrecker variant, 2 fifth wheel variants, vehicle kits, training (operator/maintainer-cargo), test support-production verification testing cargo, meetings, and contract data requirements list which satisfies all minimum quantities stated in the ID/IQ contract. Work will be performed in Oshkosh, Wis., and work is expected to be completed by May 2012. Contract funds will not expire by the end of the current fiscal year. This contract is the result of a limited competition between the LVSR System Development and Demonstration Phase contractors for the Production and Deployment (P&D) Phase. The Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, Va., is the contract activity (M67854-06-D-5028).
Kollmorgen Corporation, Electro-Optical Division, Northampton, Mass., is being awarded a $41,570,363 fixed-price-cost-plus-fixed-fee, multi-year contract, for production of four AN/BVS-1 Photonics Mast Systems for installation on SSN 780 SSN 783 Virginia Class submarines, and associated engineering services/spares. Work will be performed in Northampton, Mass. (70 percent); Seattle, Wash. (8 percent); Westfield, Mass. (6 percent); Boston, Mass. (6 percent); Joplin, Mo. (4 percent); Cincinnati, Ohio (2 percent); Orlando, Fla. (2 percent) and Hackensack, N.J. (2 percent), and is expected to be completed by September 2014. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The contract was not competitively procured. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity (N00024-06-C-6248).
Sikorsky Support Services, Inc., Stratford, Conn., is being awarded an estimated $22,098,062 firm-fixed-priced, cost-reimbursable and labor hour indefinite-delivery requirements contract to provide contractor logistics support services for the T-34, T-44, and T-6 aircraft. Work will be performed at the Naval Air Station (NAS) Corpus Christi, Texas (40.42 percent); NAS Whiting Field, Fla. (39.37 percent); NAS Pensacola, Fla. (12.07 percent); NAS Lemoore, Calif. (1.84%); NAS Oceana, Va. (1.57 percent); Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, Calif. (.79 percent); Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Patuxent River, Md. (.79 percent); Aviation Technical Test Center , Fort Rucker, Ala. (.79 percent); Naval Air Facility, El Centro, Calif. (.52 percent); Pope Air Force Base, Fayetteville, N.C. (.52 percent); NAS Jacksonville, Fla. (.52 percent); National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. (.26 percent); NASA Cleveland, Ohio (.26 percent); and Fort Eustis, Va. (.26), and is expected to be completed in September 2006. Contract funds in the amount of $22,098,062 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured via an electronic request for proposals; 13 firms were solicited and three offers were received. The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md. is the contracting activity (N00019-06-D-0017).
Exponent Inc., Phoenix, Ariz., is being awarded a $9,731,000 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for 215 multi-function Agile Remote Controlled Robot MARCbot Systems and spare parts and components for MARCbot sustainment for the Robotic Systems Joint Project Office for use by the joint robotics repair facilities and imbedded repair teams deployed in support of contingency operations in Iraq and Afghanistan in support of the Global War on Terror. Work will be performed in Phoenix, Ariz., and is expected to be completed in May 2007. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not competitively procured. The Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division, Orlando, Fla., is the contracting activity (N61339-06-D-0016).
Raytheon Missile Systems, Tucson, Ariz. is being awarded a $6,934,760 firm-fixed-priced modification to a previously awarded indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract (N00019-03-D-0009) for the repair of up to 250 AGM-88 high speed anti-radiation missile guidance and control sections. Work will be performed in Tucson, Ariz., and is expected to be completed in May 2007. Contract funds in the amount of $6,934,760 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Air Systems Command is the contracting activity.
BAE Systems Land & Armaments L.P., York, Pa., was awarded on May 30, 2006, a delivery order amount of $180,503,000 as part of a $445,439,000 firm-fixed-price contract for Iraqi Light Armored Vehicles. Work will be performed in Anniston, Ala. (50 percent), and Ladson, S.C. (50 percent), and is expected to be completed by Nov. 30, 2009. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. There were an unknown number of bids solicited via the World Wide Web on May 5, 2006, and 16 bids were received. The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, Warren, Mich., is the contracting activity (W56HZV-06-D-VB01).
Alliant Lake City Small Caliber Ammunition Company L.L.C, Independence, Mo., was awarded on May 26, 2006, a delivery order amount of $9,852,389 as part of a $352,136,424 firm-fixed-price contract for small caliber ammunition items. Work will be performed in Independence, Mo., and is expected to be completed by Sept. 30, 2007. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This was a sole source contract initiated on Oct. 5, 2005. The U.S. Army Field Support Command, Rock Island, Ill., is the contracting activity (DAAA09-99-D-0016).
