THOUSANDS OF COMMUNISTS, SCORES OF PACIFISTS DEMONSTRATE ON ARMY HOLIDAY

At least 3,000 people took part in protests in Moscow on 23 February called by assorted communists, National Bolsheviks, and other movements, mosnews.comreported the same day. Members of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the Avant-Garde of the Communist Youth, National Bolshevik Party, Officers' Union, and Labor Russia held a march in the center of Moscow. The groups were demonstrating to mark the army holiday called Defenders of the Fatherland Day, and were protesting the decline of Russia's armed forces. Also on 23 February, a group of about 50 members of the pacifist youth group Autonomous Action held an antiwar march. The group was blocked by police when it tried to approach the Kremlin and about 15 protesters were detained. BW

U.S. Christian Leaders Apologize For Iraq War

Porto Alegre, Brazil -- Friday, February 24, 2006 -- (IPS) -- Christian leaders from the United States lamented the war in Iraq and apologized for their government's current foreign policy during the 9th Assembly of the World Council of Churches, which ended here Thursday.

U.S., Britain conduct nuclear experiment at Nevada Test Site

U.S. and British government scientists have performed an underground nuclear experiment at the Nevada Test Site.
National Nuclear Security Administration officials say the experiment involved detonating explosives around a radioactive material in a vault one thousand feet underground.
The experiment was conducted Tuesday. It was the 22nd such test at the site since 1997.

CONTRACTS from the United States Department of Defense
Campbell-Ewald, Warren, Mich., is being awarded a $13,800,000 firm-fixed-price delivery order contract to provide services in support of the Navy Recruiting Command's Navy Recruitment Advertising Program. Work will be performed in Warren, Mich., and is expected to be completed by November 2006. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was awarded through full and open competition. The Fleet and Industrial Supply Center Norfolk, Philadelphia Division, is the contracting activity (N00140-06-D-0005).
