Department of Defense
DoD Identifies Army Casualty
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier
who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Staff Sgt. Alexander B. Crackel, 31, of Wilstead Bedford, United
Kingdom, died Feb. 24 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, from injuries
sustained from enemy small arms fire. Crackel was assigned to the
Army's 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, Camp Hovey, Korea.

CONTRACTS from the United States
Department of Defense
iRobot, Burlington, Mass., is being awarded an $18,354,800
firm-fixed-price contract for PackBot Explosive Ordnance Devices
and associated spare parts. The PackBot EOD is iRobots's commercial
small robotic Explosive Ordnance Disposal EOD system. The contract
is being issued pursuant to 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(2), Unusual and
Compelling Urgency. Work will be performed in Burlington, Mass.,
and is expected to be completed by September 2005. Contract funds
in the amount of $18,117,500 will expire at the end of the current
fiscal year. The contract was competitively procured, with two
proposals solicited and two proposals received. The Naval Sea
Systems Command, Indian Head Division, Indian Head, Md., is the
contracting activity (N00174-05-C-0012).
Progeny Systems Corp., Manassas, Va., is being awarded a $5,413,917
cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for engineering services in support of
the Digital Data Collection System. The contractor will provide
services including data set and database development, software
updates, design and development of Temporary Alteration Package
(TEMPALT), installation support, maintenance, upgrades, and
compatibility testing. Work will be performed in Middletown, R.I.
(60 percent); Groton, Conn. (20 percent); Washington, D.C. (20
percent), and is expected to be completed by March 2010. Contract
funds in the amount of $300,000 will expire at the end of the
current fiscal year. The contract was not competitively
procured.
The Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport Division, Newport, R.I.,
is the contracting activity (N66604-05-D-0295).
