COUNCIL DECISION of on the release of information under the
EU-NATO Security Agreement
THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,
Having regard to Council Decision 2001/264/EC of 19 March 2001
adopting the Council's security regulations 1, and in particular
Appendix 4, paragraph 2, thereof,
Whereas:
(1) The Agreement between the European Union and the North Atlantic
Treaty Organisation (hereafter "NATO") on the Security of
Information entered into force on 14 March 2003 (hereafter "EU-NATO
Security Agreement").
(2) The Council has decided on level 1 security cooperation with
NATO, in accordance with the Council's security regulations.
(3) It is appropriate, for practical reasons, to give authority to
the Secretary-General/High Representative to release EU classified
information to NATO.
(4) This authority to release should relate to security and defence
policy and other matters falling under the scope of the EU-NATO
Security Agreement,
HAS DECIDED AS FOLLOWS:
The Secretary-General/High Representative is hereby authorised to
release to NATO, in accordance with the Council's security
regulations, EU classified information and documents generated at
the Council of the European Union relating to European Security and
Defence Policy and other matters falling under the scope of the
EU-NATO Security Agreement.
Article 2
This Decision shall take effect on the date of its adoption.
