Eight women were arrested in a Motherpeace action at the naval weapons testing range located on Nanooose Bay off Vancouver Island in British Columbia in Canada. They were protesting the ten-year extension of free use of the range to the U.S. for testing and development of new weapons systems, instead of converting the land to peaceful uses. The Canadian Forces Maritime Experimental Test Range (CFMETR), a joint Canadian-American testing facility for torpedos and other maritime warfare and listening equipment, has operated out of Nanoose Bay since 1965.
