Operation Condor
Den tidligere chilenske økonom, politiker og
ambassadør Orlando Letelier og hans amerikanske kollega
Ronni Karpen Moffitt fra Institute for Policy Studies, myrdes i USAs hovedstad ved
hjælp af en bilbombe.
Litteratur: A newly declassified document offers new
evidence that former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger canceled a
warning against carrying out a secret program of international
political assassinations just days before former Chilean ambassador
Orlando Letelier and his American colleague, Ronni Moffitt, were
killed in Washington, DC.
We speak with Peter Kornbluh of the National Security Archives.

On 21 September 1976, Transnational Institute discovered the brutal
cost of fighting for economic and social justice, when Chilean
secret service agents set off a car bomb in Washington DC killing
TNI's director, Orlando Letelier along with Ronni Moffitt, a
fundraiser for the Institute for Policy Studies. It has taken more
than 30 years of struggle to bring some of those responsible to
justice.

The Letelier-Moffitt Human Rights Awards
On September 21, 1976, agents of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet
detonated a car bomb that killed IPS colleagues Orlando Letelier, a
former Chilean diplomat and director of the Institute's
Transnational Institute, and Ronni Karpen Moffitt, an IPS
development associate, in Washington, DC. Each year in October, the
Institute for Policy Studies hosts the annual human rights award in
the names of Letelier and Moffitt to honor these fallen colleagues
while celebrating new heroes of the human rights movement from the
United States and the Americas. -
