Den columbianske præsidentkandidat Jorge Eliécer Gaitán myrdes i Bogotá. Efterfølgende borgerkrig i Colombia.
Baggrund
In September of 2000, Paul Wolf, a historical researcher and author of the online archive, www.colombiawar.org, filed Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) requests with the CIA, FBI, and other U.S. agencies for records concerning Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, a Colombian presidential candidate whose assassination in 1948 led to ten years of civil war in that country. The CIA responded that it could neither confirm nor deny the existence of any documents about Gaitán. The FBI did not reply. In April of 2001, Wolf sued both agencies in Federal Court, represented by Dan Alcorn, a specialist in Freedom of Information cases.
