The NAACP files formal charges with the United Nations accusing the
United States of racial discrimination. "An Appeal to the World,"
edited by W.E.B. Du Bois, was a factual study of the denial of the
right to vote, and grievances against educational discrimination
and lack of other social rights.This appeal spurred President
Truman to create a civil rights commission.
