'He was for seventeen years one of the managers of the Perkins
Institution for the Blind ; and for fifty years he was a
Vice-President of the American Peace Society, besides being at the
head of many other charitable and religious societies. He was
connected with Harvard University, from the time he entered as a
student, forty-nine years'.
