Amerikansk
borgerrettighedsforkæmper fra 1943 og fremefter, hvis
aktion i Selma, Alabama i december 1955 fører til
dannelsen af the Montgomery Improvement Association.
På tidspunktet for hendes civile ulydighed var Parks
sekretær for Montgomerys lokal-afdeling af the National Association for Advancement of Colored
People, og havde inden da været på Highlander Folk
School, en højskole i Tennessee som virkede for
arbejdstagernes rettigheder og etnisk ligestilling. Rosa Parks
Day 2000-. og Rosa Parks Library and Museum i
Montgommery etableret december 2000 er opkaldt efter hende.
