Amerikansk republikansk politiker. Uddannet advokat 1938.
Medlem af repræsentanterens hus 1947-1951. Medlem af senatet 1951-1953. Vicepræsdient under Eisenhover 1953-1961. Foreslår anvendelse af taktiske atomvåben i Vietnamkrigen i begyndelsen af 1950erne. Medlem af McCartys komite til undersøgelse af 'uamerikansk virksomhed' under den kolde krig. Pga valgsvindel tabte Nixon præsidentvalget i 1960 til Kenendy. Præsident 1968 på løfte om at standse Vietnamkrigen. Iværksatte efterretnings-tjenesters overvågning af den amerikanske fredsbevægelse. Watergate. Trådt tilbage 1974.
