Appendix: the Royal Navy’s fleet
Naval shipbuilding in the UK has contracted and consolidated over
the last few decades. BAE Systems and Babcock International are
Britain’s two major shipbuilders and naval support providers.
The Government has a Terms of Business Agreement with both
companies...
Resulting closures and mergers has resulted in BAE Systems becoming
the prime contractor for the construction of warships and
submarines and Babcock International as the major provider of naval
support, maintenance and refitting. BAE and Babcock are separately
responsible for managing the Navy’s three bases.
